For London

Tonight darkness fell on a broken city; A city with a heritage and pride, unmatched.
Today the very heart of one of the world's most beautiful places was shaken.
And here, 7000 miles away from London, in dry Africa, the media screamed out the headlines, of how brutally London was harmed.

And I wonder: What is it that make people lose their minds and do such cruel things to a place, so proud, so majestic?
What do those crazy freaks get out of braking down such a place?

But, as night falls and everyone goes to sleep, I mourn with you, and if I could hold you in my hand, I would have.

I will say a special prayer for you, and I know that peace will settle in sometime soon.
And I know that you will lift up your head, and stand tall, and live on forever.
And today will be one of those days that, though it hurt you, will only make you stronger, stronger, stronger.
Long live London.

Wow Ahafan, I love this. I totally agree with you.
I prayed for LOndon, twice even.

Thanks for the compliment.

It's pretty but doesn't is also strike people that the oldest city in the world is Baghdad in fact and it was too ruined by bombs and gun fire. It makes London's plight no less important or the cruelty no less forgivable but as you drift off to sleep ladies and gentlement save a little room in your prayers or thoughts for that city as well, the first city inhabited by humans, throughout the ages a great center of cultural importance and the city where people stored the nkowledgeof the Greeks throughout the middle ages, in fact, make room for all cities of the world and let's hope none of them will suffer such horrible and pointless attacks, it is too much to ask for but we can hope can't we.

True ... but however, London is more important for some people than Bagdad.

Post 9 by sugarbaby (The voice of reason) on Tuesday, 12-Jul-2005 7:06:28

yes but the loss of life in baghdad is no less signifficant than the loss of life in london. life is precious, and needless loss of life is tragic, wherever it happens.

Post 10 by Q (Take my advice, I'm not using it anyhow.) on Tuesday, 12-Jul-2005 7:29:09

All this is true. However, I was just moved by the tragic events in London, for I've been there once in my life. If I had been to New York, the events of e.g. 9 September there would probably have done the same to me as the things that happened to London.

Ahafan I would seriously think about submitting that poem to a newspaper in London as it says a lot about how people are feeling, you have really captured the atrocity when so many people are struggling to find the right words...

Post 12 by wildebrew (We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?) on Tuesday, 12-Jul-2005 12:45:35

aha, yeap, I agree. I love London, I've been there numerous timmes as a kid for surgeries and a couple of times since, I feel very close to that city and very much at home there. I was close to NYC for 911, about 30 km outside the city, we received people to the university hospital, I donated my cell phone so victims could make calls for a day and we all gave blood. It was terrifying and just being there and living the spirit is an unpleasent experience I'll never forget. Still I feel the same for all people who suffer violence and all cities alike, even if I haven't been to them. I certainly did not mean to devalue what you wrote becuase it's very beautiful indeed and caputres the feeling very well *smiles*
cheers

Yeah, I agree as well.

Post 14 by Q (Take my advice, I'm not using it anyhow.) on Friday, 15-Jul-2005 11:18:40

Wildebrew, I understand and agree with your viewpoint, and thank you for the complement. I didn't mean to write down some words that only sounded nice; I was really moved by the tragic happenings, and wanted to write it down, to get rid of what I was feeling at the time.

Post 15 by Inesle1987 (Account disabled) on Friday, 15-Jul-2005 14:40:42

That is a great way. I, for my point (even though most of you will hate me for that *grins*) prayed for it.

Post 16 by Q (Take my advice, I'm not using it anyhow.) on Friday, 15-Jul-2005 16:52:25

I also prayed for London, as I prayed for New York, Baghdad, and every place I know of that had to endure such tragic, stupid, braindead activity.

Yeah same here, Ahafan.

Post 18 by Harp (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Sunday, 17-Jul-2005 10:11:40

at the time i just loved reading these thoughts for the simple reason that, even though there are some evil people out there who are willing to maim and kill in the name of a cause, there are also people out there who do care! it was just nice, even reassuring to know that.

so again i say, thank you quinten.

And exactly 2 weeks later, the same bloddy madness happened again!
Thank God no one was enjured.
However, all this happenings fill me with anger, and a helpless feeling.
This . is . unnecessary!
Those people who do such deeds, are cowards.
They're idiots.
Again: LONG LIVE LONDON!
